Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. It's been a long year for me and my family. This year, I had to make a choice in my life to continue working in the trade as a sheet metal worker or to choose an alternative path to watch my son and daughter grow. My condition was getting worse and I knew it. With most of us suffering from this horrific disease, we will continue to get worse until hopefully we see a cure. I was following all the protocol that my doctor had prescribed however, the pain in my hands was intensifying and the hypertension in my heart was making me unable to lift heavy objects at work. As of September 1st, 2011, I filed for permanent disability and am officially RETIRED, but have not given up. I go for therapy for my hands and I can do more things with them. As of now its called maintenance, nothing is fixing me but just maintaining. As of January I met with a doctor in New York City who will be administering to me a new drug called IVIG. I honestly can not wait. Sorry it took so long for me to write but I've finally gotten to it.

Remember, live your life while you can, nobody understands what we go through, individuals living with scleroderma, but I do.

Happy Holidays!
God Speed.

Hello everyone sorry I haven't written in so long. On March,8th was one of my most important visits because my sores on my hands got worse. My breathing now needs more oxygen. But I did walk up stairs with guys I work with and we were all out of breath. Then I took my pulmonary functions walk test and the girl from the hospital Donna was in a sweat! My doctor asked me if it was time for pain medicine and I denied it again. My alternative is to go out on disability and she wanted me to go to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York to start to look more into a lung transplant, but again it doesn't cure the disease. I've learned that they can only try to stabilize you and don't have a cure for the disease yet. But for a day I felt almost like depressed, but that's not me! I was looking forward to the warm weather to have some fun quading on the 200 acre farm behind me. We must move forward and do things we never did before it's to late.

Merry Christmas; Happy New Year, sorry everybody I am so late. In December I went to the doctor's and everything was stable, and had to go in for CAT scan. Everything got a little worse, but were still holding our own. In March I'm having more tests done. The cold kills me. So everybody out there stay warm.

Hello everyone, wow it has been such a long time since i have posted. I can't believe that i started this blog 18 months ago. This is a follow up to what has been happening. My last visit to the doctor was 6/18/10. My pulmonary function is down and I am now receiving oxygen nightly as well mid day.. Yes, yes, I'm still working!! I have been approved by my insurance company for another drug called adcirca for pulmonary hypertension. The winter months are underway and my joints are aching terribly as well as the bottom of my feet. My hands no longer can close. The other day i tried to pick a dime up off of the floor and it was impossible.
My family and I would like to thank Maryann Speckhardt and all of the friends and neighbors of Hedgerow Estates for their generous contribution toward a college fund established for my son, Mikey. The next checkup i have is coming up in November. I will try to keep you posted then
